Loving your neighbor and turning the other cheek are two of the most prevalent tenets of Christianity. The religion is literally founded on love and acceptance (despite what conservatives will have you think). Jesus hung out with prostitutes and prayed for his murderers as he hung to die. Then I remember the history of the Black Church. I remember how my great-great-great grandparents were forced to gather to worship in secret because they were slaves. I think about how racists would harass and terrorize patrons of Black churches in the ’60s. And then I think about how despite all of that we would still gather, still study, still pray, still worship.

I cannot give you any tips about how to turn good first dates into relationships because I keep falling for people who live 300 to 3,000 miles away from me like a doofus. But I have first dates on lock.
For people experiencing this: none of it is in your head. The reason you feel weird/uncomfortable/angry is because your white partner is asserting their white-supremacist based notions of communities of color onto you. You don’t deserve that shit. It’s boring, insulting, and you don’t need to combat their issues while trying to figure your own life out. Your family isn’t a reflection of every South Asian family. And if you’re dealing with transphobia/homophobia in your family, you don’t need someone who’s going to throw an ethnic stereotype in your face. Like motherfuck that forever, bb.
