Amy Falcone’s “Clique Refresh”: An Awesome Webcomic About Online Gaming and Friendship

Amy T. Falcone is kind of a favorite around here. I’ve already written about something she worked on when I covered Erica Greco’s (who I had the pleasure of meeting at A-Camp) comic Mix Tape, which Falcone colored. Another of her comics, Cardigan Weather, was also featured in Hansen’s post about Seven Queer Webcomics That Aren’t DAR. Plus, back when the comic I’ll be  talking…

“Team Girl Comic Issue 10″ Brings Together Over 20 Women Comic Creators

Team Girl Comic Issue 10 starts with a short comic by Gill Hatcher and Claire Yvette (the editors) telling the story of how Team Girl Comiccame to be. According to the legend, it all started a long, long time ago (2009) in a mystical and magical kingdom (Glasgow) when Hatcher was selling her DIY comics and noticed the lack of other women making comics. She soon gathered other…

Lumberjanes #3 Has Adventure, Math and Science and Logic To The Max!

Lumberjanes #3 Has Adventure, Math and Science and Logic To The Max!

In Issue #3 of Lumberjanes, we pick up right where we left off last issue, with Mal, Jo, April, Molly and Ripley lost in a cave after falling down a wild and winding hole deep underground. Clearly, the only way they can go is forward, so on they go, deep into the weird underground temple that seems to be underneath their camp. Although they say there wasn’t a chapter on creepy…

Joana Estrela Takes Us To Pride in Lithuania in her comic “Propaganda”

Joana Estrela Takes Us To Pride in Lithuania in her comic “Propaganda”

image

Just in time for pride month, I got a chance to read Joana Estrela‘s wonderful, touching and personal comic Propaganda. Propaganda tells the story of Estrela’s time working with the Lithuanian Gay League, helping to organize Baltic Pride and hanging out with friends in one of the most anti-gay countries in the European Union. Having the look and feel of a journal (in the absolute best way), this book really made me feel all the most cliché emotions of a book review: I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I got lost in the story.

Webcomic “Becoming Me” Shows What it’s Like to be a Young Trans Woman Around Town

Webcomic “Becoming Me” Shows What it’s Like to be a Young Trans Woman Around Town

Seeing as I’m a trans woman who loves comics and who loves diverse queer representation in the comics that I read, I’m constantly on the look for good webcomics with trans protagonists. I recently found the lovely comic Becoming Me and it is wonderfully filling that role. Written by Mia Rose Elbo, a 23-year-old Chilean trans woman, Becoming Me only started as a comic back in…

Suzanne Geary’s Webcomic “Brainchild” Brings a Supernatural, Queer College Story to Your Computer

Suzanne Geary’s Webcomic “Brainchild” Brings a Supernatural, Queer College Story to Your Computer

image

Brainchild combines the supernatural, college and lesbianism– three things I have a lot of experience with (or maybe really just two things)– and it combines them extremely well. Written and drawn by Suzanne Geary, it’s the story of a college student, her friends, her ghosts and possibly a lot more. The art is gorgeous, the women are queer and the world is full of demons and brothers back from…

Boom! Box’s new title Lumberjanes is back with issue #2, and it picks up the fun, adventure and friendship of the last issue right off the ground and runs with it even faster and farther. Created by Shannon Waters, Grace Ellis (also known as our very own Intern Grace) and Noelle Stevenson, and with illustrations by Brooke Allen and colors by Maarta Laiho, Lumberjanes is only two…

Check Out the First Three Issues of Ms. Marvel Right Now!

image

This week here at Drawn to Comics, we’re taking a look at the first three issues of Marvel Comic’s new title Ms. Marvel. This book follows the adventures of Kamala Kahn, a sixteen year old Pakistani-American Muslim girl as she navigates life as a teenager who recently gained superpowers that her friends and family don’t know about. It’s written by G. Willow Wilson, a Muslim woman herself, and illustrated by Adrian Alphonsa, and it sure is taking off with a bang.

Rhymes With Witches: Partners in Crime, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn

Rhymes With Witches: Partners in Crime, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn

To be honest y’all I’m not much of a comic book geek. I don’t purposefully skip the graphic novels section in bookstores. It’s not that I dislike them or find them boring. I’ve read a couple here and there but I’m not engrossed into that world as much as other people who deserve to be called fans. With that being said, there’s just something about Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. They are just so cool and so badass that even though I don’t know anything about the DC world, I still wanted to talk about them!! And to be honest, they are the only reason I have even considered visiting my local comic book store.

The New Comic “Lucky & Scary” Features an Adorable Queer Couple

The New Comic “Lucky & Scary” Features an Adorable Queer Couple

image

I’m just an absolute sucker for a cute queer romance between two ladies, and so when I found out about the new comic Lucky and Scary I was tickled pink. Here we have the Tale as Old as Time: a cute blonde femme with a penchant for dressing like Sailor Moon meets a “very gender neutral chick” with a sweet leather jacket and the two fall head-over-heels in love. Writer and artist Hannah Hallman shows us little peeks into their relationship in these charming one-shots that show us both the highs and the lows of queer love.

Hello April showers! I can tell that May flowers are on the way because it’s been super rainy this week. Here’s the news we missed while I was putting on my rain boots. (And by rain boots, I mean Doc Martens. Because they’re the best boots for every purpose.)

Molly Alice Hoy is a comic artist and writer who also scores an 82.6/100 on the Super Gay Scale. She also lives in LA with her fiancee, a cat and a dog. Her work has been featured everywhere from Buzzfeed to The Huffington Post. Her cute and simply drawn comics drew me in immediately, and every time I see another one by her, it brings a smile to my face and warms my heart. If you want to experience those same feelings, you can head on over to her Tumblr to read these fun little comics.

Drawn to Comics: Celebrating the Eisner-Nominated Women of 2014

Drawn to Comics: Celebrating the Eisner-Nominated Women of 2014

image

The nominees for the Eisner Awards were announced last week. The Eisners (named after legendary comic creator Will Eisner) are kind of like the Oscars of the comic book world, except that instead of an exclusive Academy voting on them, any comics professional can go and vote. As you can see by the list of nominees, it’s not that common that women get nominated for Eisners. Out of the 30 categories and more than 160 nominees, only 35 belong to women. Since that’s the case, I wanted to make sure I did what I could to draw attention to these super talented artists, writers and creators who brought us amazing comics this year.

Lumberjanes #1 is Soooooooooooo Good!

Lumberjanes #1 is Soooooooooooo Good!

image

Ever since I first heard that our very own Intern Grace, along with the group of other super talented comic creators Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Waters and Brooke Allen, I have been pacing back and forth waiting for comic to actually come out. When I finally got my hands on a copy of it last week, I was not let down. Lumberjanes#1 is easily my favorite debut issue of any comic in at least two years. So often I’m worried that a lot of my friends won’t like the comics that I’m into, whether it’s because they’re too full of sci-fi weirdness, you have to know too much about the world, they have too much fighting or they’re too niche. This comic is completely without that problem.
