EUROVISION! Drag Queen Conchita Wurst Wins World’s Queerest Song Contest

Eurovision results are in: Austria’s Conchita Wurst wins!
“This night is dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom. You know who you are… we are unstoppable.”
For the unacquainted, Eurovision is a yearly celebration of pop, camp and sometimes confusion, and this year’s in particular was slated to be a “hotbed of sodomy” because of Wurst’s participation. Wurst was a clear crowd favourite going in, but – surprise! – some people in Russia and Belarus petitioned to have her performance cut from their national broadcasts.
AND THEN SHE WON.

Kate McKinnon, Super Funny Queer Comedian, Wins American Comedy Award

Kate McKinnon, a Saturday Night Live featured player since 2012, won the American Comedy Award for Best Supporting Actress, TV at a ceremony Thursday night.
Before she was on SNL, she was a star of Logo’s Big Gay Sketch Show. McKinnon is SNL‘s first openly lesbian cast member (Danitra Vance, also the first African American woman to be a repertory player on the show, wasn’t out during her run) and only third LGBT cast member ever. Last year she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Emmy for her work on SNL, but did not win.

The character of Delphine on the TV show Orphan Black is one of the most high-profile depictions of bisexual women in current popular media. Cecily McMillan’s Conviction Provides Helpful Primer on How the Criminal Justice System Is Totally F*cked

Cecily McMillan is an activist involved in the Occupy movement, but that probably isn’t how you’ve heard of her. More likely you’re familiar with her name because today she was found guilty of assaulting a police officer. The NYPD claims that McMillan intentionally elbowed Officer Grantley Bovell in the face on St. Patrick’s Day 2012. McMillan and her defense claim that McMillan elbowed someone behind her without knowing who they were in an attempt to stop them from groping her breast. It appears that the jury eventually came to believe the NYPD’s narrative.

I Tried Not to Have Feelings at Sundance London; These Three Movies Made Me Fail

As far as I could tell, unlike what Keely basked in at the (original) Sundance Festival in Park City, Utah, Sundance London was not very gay at all. To be fair, I do have rather high standards for queer representation – if the world’s something like 90% heterosexual, then I think it’s only right that there should be queer ladies in 100% of my media – but still I had far more tickets than they had gay, which was a cause of some distress.
