I recently started reading autostraddle, and I am really curious to know, what exactly is A-camp?
We’ve been running AS since March 2009 and we had this idea at some point that it would be both fun and a good business idea to create AS 3-D and so then we decided to do it and then we decided to do it like for one weekend as a “pilot” to see what would happen, like to rent a summer camp in the spring for a weekend and invite everybody and run activities and shit and called it A-Camp. so we wrote this post:

…and then it happened last weekend! And it was so fun and we want to do it again.
I feel like you guys are talking about A-camp the perfectly appropriate amount and I’m personally interested even though I didn’t go and may never have the guts to go but hope to go some day. Honestly it makes me really happy everyone had a good time.

seriously we are exerting serious self-control not to talk about it all the time, so
how do you feel about being the hottest of the hot 100?
i feel very positively about this and am going to take this opportunity to remind each and every one of you that YES WE CAN.
so i sent a snarky comment about a-camp & i want to take it back, it was mean. i’m just frustrated by all the comments… a/s now feels like those-that-went-to-camp and those-that-are-watching. i still want to feel part of this community.
it’s been three days, you know? just three days.
i don’t want you to feel that way
at all
and i’m very very very very very aware of the risk of the site
feeling like that after camp,
and statistically speaking i’d be a really bad CEO
if i shifted the focus away from our hundreds of thousands of readers
to focus only on the 163 readers who went to camp.
(and the 300 who will go next time!)
especially when we’ve already established the hyper-active A-Camp social club on facebook where everyone can relish in the glory of camp privately off-site
i’m aware of this risk and i think you should give it time
i think if you read articles that aren’t the camp open thread or the hot 100 contest
that things will seem normal and business as usual
that being said – tumblr and formspring is where we’ll always be unapolagetically self-indulgent and basically talk about ourselves and your feelings and whatever, so this will just be whatever we want it to be forever and ever… maybe you’d feel less like everything was camp-oriented if you weren’t also plugged in to formspring/tumblr?
also there are readers who want to hear about camp, too!
it’s a good story. camp. like objectively. it’s a story about lesbians who did something special, and that’s what we write about every day!
congrats on camp, sounds great. Did every single person love it and fit in, or were there any people that got a bit weird or upset or were dickheads etc?
it went by so so so so fast
especially for me, b/c i was somehow booked for some activity every minute
(this was my own fault, ultimately)
and also operating on 3 hrs of sleep
(which makes my brain way slower and alcohol hit me harder)
but i think/hope everybody loved it –
i don’t think that means the same thing for everybody, though
like my first year at interlochen i didn’t fit in, really
at least not right away
it took many months
but i loved the environment and the classes so much
that i was willing to sit and observe and wait until i felt comfortable
speaking up, or until i knew how to
and then my senior year was the best year of my life
i imagine there were people like that
who maybe didn’t feel like they fit in
but were ok with the baby step of being there at all
and will continue blossoming like
special snowflake-flowers
i’m sure there was girl drama
and there were busted tires
and twisted ankles
and too-much-to-drink
and pranks gone awry
and there were other things we’ll fix for next time,
like overcrowded cabins and *cough* the transportation situation
and mediocre food
but i think in general the vibe was just so awesome
it would be hard not to love it at least a little bit
it was really special i think
like the most special thing i’ve ever seen
did people have sex at a-camp i’ll cry if the answer is no
yes, people had sex at a-camp
people even broke a bed at a-camp
so

One easy option is you could turn your living room in to a dining room by putting the dining room table in the center. Or, f you’re crafty, you could put a sewing/crafting table and a chair in the living room. Or, if you’re cuddly, you could put a big fluffy rug with lots of different textures of oversize pillows and pillar candles. Or, if you like to work out, you could put down a couple of yoga mats and some exercise balls.

i think my #1 feeling towards that would be, “really?!! that’s so sweet!”
it would be a good/flattering feeling, i think
no matter how old i get or how much things change
there’s still that pre/teenaged girl inside of me that nobody wanted to make out with
and got teased for how she looked
so i think she would like it most of all
