I have been wanting to go to A-camp since the first one was announced. I never really had the funds to go before but I figure if I hustle hard enough I might be able to go. My question is do you think some one like me (someone with Aspergers) would feel comfortable? I know It's a safe place for all sorts of people, but like, if someone sees a quiet, well-intentioned, weirdo in the corner would someone say hi? I know it's a hard question to answer, but thanks in advance.

YES!  And thanks for this question!  Please come to camp.  I can speak from my experience, at least. I’m an obnoxious, introverted, well-intentioned weirdo which looks something like this

Also my brother has Aspergers and we grew up relating on some of his Aspie traits like being sensitive to overstimulation and living in our heads a lot.  So I’ll speak as well as I can on Aspie related concerns and if other Aspie campers have thoughts/ideas/feelings on this please contribute!  For starters, if you (or other Aspie campers) are very specific about your food, special diets are welcomed at camp, and you can list your food requirements in your registration.

There are lots of quiet/introverted/shy (not equating those traits together tho!) types at camp, so if you relate to any of those words, you’re in good company.   You can also request to be in a quiet non-party cabin with wonderful queers who you’ll probly have a lot in common with because Riese has a magic Sorting Bra. Lots of the activities are laid back like nerd crafting, hikes, early bird cafe, and the introvert meet-up.  How-to workshops are great for having something to focus on and taking the pressure off, then you can socialize whenever you feel comfortable.

The camp schedule has been adjusted to leave empty blocks after meals which is wonderful, and you’re always free to opt out of any block to give yourself a nap block or a read in the woods block* or sit on the swings and get to know someone you met at the previous block, block… or whatever you want.  block.

Also the greater vibe of camp is about community, and everyone’s there to have a positive experience and laugh and smile a bunch.  People are generally happy to see you even if they don’t know you yet, and I promise you can gimme a wave and I’ll give you a hayyyyy!

This is a reallll long answer but I wanna make sure I cover everything I can think of and I really hope this helps because I wanna see you there!!

*there are quiet woodsy spots within the camp site to chill without getting lost, but if you go for a hike or onto a trail or off the mapped campsite you gotta tell a staff member and take buddies!  Just don’t disappear on us.
