Creator of Little Horribles to host Web Series Workshop at A-Camp 5.0!!
Amy York Rubin // Writer, Director & Entrepreneur
Amy’s first adult job was in politics. She worked her way from the slums of New York City politics all the way up to the slums of Democratic politics on Capitol Hill, where she produced some of the first-ever viral political videos, featuring many of her friends and collaborators at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Amy’s political work was regularly featured everywhere from The New York Times to The Hollywood Reporter — spanning the two worlds she traipsed between. However, pushing the creative envelope from within the nation’s capital proved to be a less-than-inspiring task and so in 2009, Amy founded what is now Barnacle Studios — a boutique production and branded entertainment firm with clients ranging from Vanity Fair and Google to The Nature Conservancy and Oxfam America. In 2013 Amy created the popular web series, Little Horribles — a dark comedy following the poor decisions of a self-indulgent lesbian. The series has garnered over a million views, was hailed as one of the top ten web series of 2013 by Variety and has been featured everywhere from LA Magazine to BuzzFeed. As a graduate of UCB’s sketch and improv courses Amy’s not only worked with some of the biggest up and coming names in comedy, including Ilana Glazer and Kate Mckinnon, but Amy’s also had the opportunity to work with and direct some of her all-time favorite comedians including Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Andy Richter and Dave Koechner. Amy’s currently directing a series produced by Funny or Die and created by and featuring Maria Bamford about Debtors Anonymous support groups in Los Angeles. Amy regularly performs standup comedy around L.A. and writes and directs her own material, as well as directs commercials and various projects with people she likes.
Amy will be at A-Camp 5.0 talking about creating her amazing web series and her experiences in various forms of media. I’m definitely not missing this one.
