Learn HTML and Build A Better Internet Comment: Part 2
Hullo queermos! I have seen some really well-formatted comments this week! Congratulations to all! Today, we’re going to dive just a little bit further down the rabbit hole re: complexity. If you haven’t seen part one of this mini-two-part-series, head on over and check it out. I think knowing the very basics will be helpful. Don’t worry, we’ll wait for you to get back.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: The Puzzle
"Burka Avenger," Pakistan’s first original animated TV series, features a female superhero who’s sparked a debate about whether her burqa disguise is "cool or conformist." Why is this still the issue?
Thank you Autostraddle for correcting that the hero is wearing a niqab, not a burqa. And some of comments made by Haroon Rashid (Pakistani pop star and creator of the series) are problematic. But nonetheless, it is nice to see Pakistan have their own children’s show that isn’t white-washed and westernized.

Carmen Carrera, Tyra Banks Team Up With VH1 to Make Docuseries About Trans Women

Carmen Carrera, a transgender model and activist, is set to star in a brand new docuseries about a group of young trans women living in Chicago. The series, produced by Tyra Banks, will debut its eight hour-long episode run in late 2014 or early 2015. The show, called TransAmerica, will air on VH1. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “the series is described as an earnest look at a group of millennial women — who happen to be transgender — living, loving and building their careers. The series will explore how their sexuality impacts their lives.” Now, I’m pretty sure they mean “how their gender impacts their lives,” but hopefully the show will also have a diverse range of sexualities among the women.

Hello my homogays, it’s lovely to see you this fine Friday. And it is a very, very fine Friday. I am super excited to host the Friday Open Thread, which is a thing we do every Friday wherein we talk to each other on the internet via the comments section on this website called Autostraddle.com, maybe you’ve heard of it? Home of vapid fluff? I’m especially excited re: the vapid fluff.

Wilder Hungers: Orecchiette with Marinated Eggplant and More California

Hi Straddlers!
Welcome to the “It’s been 3 weeks but I still wish I was in California” installment of Wilder Hungers. In this week’s post, I will elaborate on my trip to California with my girlfriend that I touched on a couple weeks ago because we are STILL obsessing. As soon as we got back to New York we filled our apartment with air plants, macramé wall hangings, and mementos from our travels. It’s sort of helping us swallow the bitter pill that we don’t live in a chic beach shack off the Venice boardwalk with perfectly mismatched patio furniture and hammocks! I know I already shared some pictures (mostly of food) but I wanted to circle back and tell you about some of my favorite moments of the trip. FYI the itinerary included 3 days in Palm Springs, a day exploring Joshua Tree, a week in Los Angeles, 1 Night in Vegas (to see the Britney show) and 4 hours getting lost in Death Valley.

Impress and Feed Everyone Around You Without Going Broke or Insane (the Secret is Potstickers)

You know what’s surprisingly easy? Making dumplings, that’s what. I’m not talking American dumplings, or Jewish bubbie dumplings (though both of these are really freaking easy too). Nope. I’m talking beautiful, hand-pleated, dim sum style potstickers that are everyone’s favorite food and apart of nobody’s culinary wheelhouse. Which needs to change, because guys, they are cheap and easy. Heh.
