Hey everyone!

If you live in or near the Twin Cities and want to join in on some Pride month festivities then you should stop by the Queer Cuts For A Cause event! It’s this Wednesday June 11th from 6pm-9pm at Boneshaker Books and is hosted by the Twin Cities Autostraddle group

You can get a haircut on a sliding scale fee from $15-30 and all proceeds will be donated to the local LGBT+ youth group RECLAIM!

If you don’t need a haircut then you should definitely still come by because there will be free food and activities as well as some of the most amazing Queer people [and their allies~] in Minnesota.

Plus!!! The buttons that I designed [see above] will be for sale! So stop by for that cool stuff too!

I hope to see you there!

Trans Woman Held Captive In Horrific Louisiana Human Trafficking Case

Trans Woman Held Captive In Horrific Louisiana Human Trafficking Case

image

Louisiana police are reporting that in an unbelievably extreme and horrifying act of violence, three people in Natchitoches Parish spent years holding a trans woman hostage and enslaving her, as well as torturing and sexually assaulting her. The captive woman escaped from her torturers on May 31, and on June 4th, David Rodriguez, Jr; Christina Marie Harper; and Ambre Lomas were arrested on counts…

Beyond Definition: On Queer Black Love and My Kaleidoscope Identity

Beyond Definition: On Queer Black Love and My Kaleidoscope Identity

image

I was reading an article that suggested that partnerships are more likely to last when partners have “unrealistic” views of each other. Possibly like mothers who believe that their children are the most beautiful in the world. That idealistic focus, the impassioned affection is what keeps that parent protecting their child at all costs with a fervor that is difficult to put into words. And this…

Bonnaroo Bound 2014: Let’s Hang Out Under The Sun

Bonnaroo Bound 2014: Let’s Hang Out Under The Sun

HELLO FREE SPIRITS.

I’m writing to you from the land of Tennessee, where the mountains are smoky, the woods are dolly, and my mother buys us lunch! We’re counting our tarps and bottles of sunscreen in anticipation of leaving bright and early Thursday morning for Bonnaroo, and we were just wondering if maybe you wanted to come hang out with us?

We're not in this picture, but the monkey really captures the spirit of how it'll feel when we see you.

Joana Estrela Takes Us To Pride in Lithuania in her comic “Propaganda”

Joana Estrela Takes Us To Pride in Lithuania in her comic “Propaganda”

image

Just in time for pride month, I got a chance to read Joana Estrela‘s wonderful, touching and personal comic Propaganda. Propaganda tells the story of Estrela’s time working with the Lithuanian Gay League, helping to organize Baltic Pride and hanging out with friends in one of the most anti-gay countries in the European Union. Having the look and feel of a journal (in the absolute best way), this book really made me feel all the most cliché emotions of a book review: I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I got lost in the story.

Oh My F*cking God It’s “Orange is the New Black” With Cats

Oh My F*cking God It’s “Orange is the New Black” With Cats

Perhaps the only experience more amazing, addictive, and strangely emotional than watching the entirety of Orange Is The New Black Season 2 in 48 hours is watching a bunch of cats reinvent the entire premise in under two minutes. I honestly think that in watching this I both expanded my ability to love and learned to appreciate the unique contributions of cats to the world (but don’t tell Eli). Plus, even better than that are how great Alex’s glasses look on everyone.
