Texas GOP Walks The Plank of Its Own Platform As State Shimmers With Purple

Texas gives me whiplash.
I could never say it is hard to love my state. Loving Texas is an immutable constant etched into the core of my being — and into my right shoulder, where I wear its shape as a tattoo that matches that of a dozen friends and countless strangers. Texas raised me, and it taught me to fight, to think, to dream and to always be my authentic self. It gives me breakfast tacos,…

Linguist Gretchen McCulloch discussed gendered pronouns, writing:
“In the late 18th century, grammarians started recommending that people use he as a gender nonspecific pronoun because they was ostensibly plural, as part of the grand tradition of awkwardly shoehorning English grammar into Latin which has caused many of your present…
Upon Going Home: Review of “The Messiah Complex”

The Messiah Complex. Here Arts Center, April 5th, 2014. Written by Nia Witherspoon. Directed by Shayok Misha Chowdhury.

Lizz and Gabby only spoke to all of my favorites from oitnb VIDEO: Red Carpet Crushes and the Cast of Orange is the New Black
As a kid, I was especially intrigued by the (cis) female body. I was unable to decide whether or not my intrigue with the female body was “normal,” because what I had always seen and been taught was heteronormative — boys like girls and girls like boys. I understood that, but I couldn’t whole-heartedly agree. I needed to understand why what I was being taught was different from what I felt. Was it okay for girls to like girls? And if so, why didn’t I ever see it or hear anyone talking about it? There had to be some kind of explanation! So I decided to ask my mom. I purposely tried to formulate my inquiry in a way that would be general enough to keep her from feeling alarmed, but also specific enough to make her aware of my thoughts and curiosities. So I asked her, “Is there something wrong with looking at women’s bodies?” And without hesitation, my mom replied, “There is nothing wrong with the human body — it is beautiful. It is the perversion of the world that tries to make it a shameful, dirty thing.” Welp! I took that and stuck it in my back pocket. That was a green light of sorts for me. A confirmation, if you will, that I was okay, that my interest in the female body was okay.
Hello there! My name is Liam and a bunch of straight people sent me here to ruin your lesbian show
Take the Lead: A Beginner’s Adventure at Queer Tango Festival

I came across the OKCupid profile of a handsome boi named Eli from Seattle. Even though they are a six-hour plane ride from me, I five-starred their profile anyway. Eli’s pictures were full of character, they danced Queer Tango and built community around it. When they liked me back (!), I messaged, “You make me want to try Queer Tango.”
Thanks to the magnanimity of two dancers, Thierry and…

Sober in the City: 20 Summer Mocktail Recipes to Try Now

I was a bit out of sorts when I first got sober: anxious, stressed, angry, depressed. Everything bothered me, and living in NYC didn’t help the situation. One of my good friends would patiently listen to me complain non-stop about any and everything. Until one day she had just had it with me. I was going on and on about how it was just so unfair that I would never be able to drink again, until…
4 Things Your Journal Has in Common With “Orange is the New Black”
In honor of the much-heralded return of Autostraddle’s favorite television show, allow me to share some ways in which your journal and Orange is the New Black are basically the same thing.
1. They are all the rage on Autostraddle.I assume you all noticed that there was a time earlier this week when approximately 70% of items on the Autostraddle home page were related in some way, shape, or form…
