The system was not designed for us to be successful in the first place. It was designed to marginalize Black and Brown bodies. The oppressors who created the system are never going to give up their power. Even when there are laws that are supposed to protect us from discrimination by public services such as the police, trans women are profiled and targeted in LGBT ‘safe havens’ such as Greenwich Village and Hell’s Kitchen. Things that are considered items of safety, like condoms, are used to accuse trans women of being sex workers. Until we dismantle this broken system, I don’t see any real change happening.

Ten Truly Terrible Pieces of Advice Offered To and About Bisexuals

Today Dear Prudence/Emily Yoffe of internet website Slate wrote some real unhelpful advice to a beleaguered bisexual lady out there. GLAAD agreesthat advising bisexuals does not seem to be her strong point. Lucky for Prudence and unlucky for us, she is in pretty good company in that regard. Sometimes it’s telling bisexuals to definitely never come out ever; sometimes it’s telling them they HAVE…

Unfortunately, This Magical Anti-Rape Nail Polish Won’t Save Us

Four chemistry students are creating nail polish that changes colors when exposed to drugs often used in sexual assaults such as GHB, Xanax and Rohypnol. The idea behind Undercover Colors, they say, is to create an easy to use product to combat drug-facilitated sexual assault against women.
It sounds so logical, so simple. Their intentions seem good — they say they thought of the project because…

Reproductive justice activists and trans feminist activists have questioned the framing of…
It isn’t the male gaze, dominant narratives of sexuality, or hegemonic femininity which reigns true throughout Minaj’s work. It’s her own sexual state of being. And when Nicki Minaj struts out in a string bikini or exudes her own sexuality in the middle of something otherwise empowering, it isn’t an inherent contradiction or a cause for debate. It’s simply a reflection of how many women — women who, often, feel comfortable with and empowered in their choices — are living their sexual lives. As sexual beings, we’re allowed to indulge in self-directed pursuits of pleasure without shame. We’re allowed to be frank about our own exploits. We’re feminists who fuck, and a lot of times it looks like both things happening at the exact same time.

Q: Is there any way a so-called “mixed orientation” marriage can ever work? My straight, cis husband and I have been together for almost 15 years, and we have a young child together. When we started dating, I told him I was bi, but that it wouldn’t be an issue since I…
Minaj’s perspective has always been multi-dimensional; she comes forward as an immigrant, as a black women, as a female rapper, as a sexual being, as an artist, as a storyteller, as a survivor, as a bad bitch. She comes forward in order to tell her own story, be it one of domination or declaration. Minaj has even come forward as a feminist. She’s actually done it over and over again. And yet, instead of simply embracing her own discourse on the topic, feminists often can’t wrap their heads around it.
