Becoming Visible: On Coming Out As Bisexual

It’s 2014, and queers are coming out in droves, increasing visibility and demanding basic human rights. But in many ways, bisexuals have a harder time coming out. We’re substantially less represented in fictional media and in public life, and plenty of people still believe bisexuals are selfish, greedy, duplicitous, indecisive, emotionally unavailable unicorns going going through a phase. Bisexual adults and youth are much less likely than their gay and lesbian counterparts to be out to their friends and families, according to recent reports from LGBT Movement Advancement Project and the Human Rights Commission.

VIDEO: Ellen Page and Kate Mara are Tiny Detectives

Earlier this year, there were rumours that adorable real-life BFF’s, Ellen Page and Kate Mara, might be cast in Season 2 of HBO’s True Detective. While we all hoped and prayed to the Goddess that this might be for reals, we now know that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughnare the new leads. Of course, this is probably because Page and Ellen would be too short and not because the world is not yet ready for two female leads on a detective show, amiright?

Queer Girl City Guide: Salt Lake City

Is Salt Lake City really the “Gayest City” as named by the Advocate in 2012? Not really, but I do think Salt Lake is an up and coming city that’s becoming more progressive year after year. Although I am sometimes frustrated about being queer here, there are also a lot of reasons why I love this city.

I want her to want me. Like I want her. I want her to want my skin on her bones, my lips on her as she works her body into mine. I want her to wake up with nothing but the thought of me, all encompassing, draping over her like a shawl on a wet winter morning. I want her to be taken over by the thought of seeing me again, of eyes held, of breaths taken. I want her to want me like I want her; to spend her day willing her phone to ring, counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds till we can be together. I want her to think of me as she sits at her desk. To think of me sitting at my desk, thinking of me thinking of her. I want her to savor each moment, undisturbed. I can’t resist this feeling she gives me. It makes me want to hide under the covers and simultaneously find her at the mountaintop, proclaiming love.
Aaw, Supercakes got on the shortlist for some honors over at AutoStraddle, that sweet, queer lady website. Supercakes and I are part of a good crowd!
