#ThankfulforAutostraddle because of all of the AMAZING friends I’ve made at a-camp. These people are my family and I love them.
Ridiculous research finding of the day: Straight people are inexplicably grossed out by gay PDA on AutostraddleResearchers at Indiana University have confirmed what any queer person who’s been on a date in hetero spaces already knew — that a lot of straight people are still rather uncomfortable with public displays of queer love (or lust or like or drunken-poor-decision-making-with-strangers). The study, which appears in the December edition of the American Sociological Review, was a survey of over 1000 individuals designed to gauge the larger public’s perceptions of queer relationships compared to straight relationships. The takeaway of the study? Straight folks are totally okay with our relationships, as long as we don’t try to get married or touch each other in public.
for over 5 years the amazing wonderful crazy/sexy/cool folks at autostraddle have offered me words of encouragement, taught me about justice and compassion, made me laugh on the daily, taken over my wardrobe, and finally brought me to my big beautiful queer family that i carry in my runagayheart (i carry it in my heart) #ThankfulForAutostraddle
I just kind of love all my little queerdo genius friend babes for coming up with and taking part in this thing they’re doing today, #ThankfulforAutostraddle. I am so beyond grateful for Autostraddle, I probs bring it up or reference an article from it once a day at least. I truly believe that I...
Salem Episodes 1 and 2 Recap: Thou Shalt Not Suffer a Basic Witch on AutostraddleStraddlers! I’m writing to you at three past the witching hour, up late to concoct a dark and complex brew for you. We’ll be covering Salem, a occult-themed historical drama full of canon queerness, witchy TV Tropes, magick panic, and horrible colonial patriarchy. To combat accentuate the darkness, I’ll also sprinkle in relevant moody playlists and suggested reading.
To be alive in this world at all: indeed to be queer, a person of color, a person with a disability, trans, a woman or poor, is to have self-hatred non-consensually woven into your education in personhood before you’re even aware the air you are breathing. I believe sometimes depression is the natural effect of attempting to cough some of the toxic waste of self-hatred out of one’s lungs that can’t be out run.

(via threecheersforqueers)Faking It Episode 209 Recap: Heartbroken and Angry and Really Really Drunk on AutostraddleThen we FINALLY reach the location where life truly happens — the gorgeous green grounds of Hester Blue Corn Moon High School For Hashtag Hippies, where Penelope’s setting up a day-long All-School Exercise Game Civilization Social Experiment Situation that’ll probably teach everybody a lesson about how oppressed they aren’t.
Amy shows up, looking wrecked. You know the real tragedy here is that “the morning after the first time she had lesbian sex” has now become “the worst morning of her life.” Tragedy is about to wipe that sweet sweet scent right off her fingertips.
Today On Slack: Labels are for Hornets
- stef: can you say the bee is panmonthly
- stef: or monthlyflexible
- riese: can you say the bee is demimonthly
- stef: why does the bee have to define itself anyway
- kaelyn: Omnimonthly
- riese: i think it uses binary pronouns
- chelsey: i prefer the term fortnightly
- carolyn: maybe it's just open to possibilities
- riese: everybody is always pressuring the bee to label itself and it's not fair
- chelsey: but i don't mean to pressure the bee towards my inclinations
- stef: the bee's just into people
- kaelyn: Monthlyflexible?
- stef: or time
- stef: or whatever
- stef: just let the bee be
- riese: perhaps the bee would consent to fortnightly
- kaelyn: The bee doesn't need your labels. Labels are for hornets.
Gotham Episode 109 Recap: Holy Lesbosexy Scissoring, Batman! on AutostraddleI know this shouldn’t make me as happy as it does, BUT I DON’T CARE. Do you know how long I’ve been reading comic books? 100 years probably. And do you know how much straight white male bullshit I have to put up with on the regular, even just browsing in a comic book shop? SO MUCH BULLSHIT. I read a bunch of reviews of this week’s episode a few minutes ago and it is basically all these fanboys having the biggest, loudest fits you have ever seen in your life, like they are so sure a beautiful woman would leave the embrace of future Commissioner Jim Gordon of the Gotham City Police Department to have sex with another woman. So sure someone would choose V on V over P in the V. Can you even imagine what a nightmare that must seem like to these dudes? It’s the opposite of nearly every thing that ever happens to bisexual women on television and in comic books, and I don’t even care if it’s not here to stay; it’s here for now.
