It’s been a great year for hard-hitting investigative journalism.
"Ellen Page Comes Out, Takes a Woman to Whole Foods" is easily the best headline of 2014.

I just wanted to add in Autostraddle’s article about this terrible incident, so that any trans women reading can also find this wonderful community for LGBTQ women. Reading the article makes things seem bleak, but on this site, you’ll find inclusivity and community and proof of trans women living prosperous lives. Here you’ll find not only that it gets better, but that in some places (even if it’s only online) it IS better.
“I genuinely keep trying to do the Jewish Christmas thing with my parents — Chinese food at their favourite spot at some absurdly early hour, and then a movie, usually of their choosing. We bring my adorable 91-year-old grandmother, who’s a huge fan of romantic comedies and other standard chick flicks. She desperately wants to see Black Swan; she heard it’s a very good movie about a ballet dancer. I have already seen Black Swan and don’t think my sweet grandmother would appreciate it, but she speaks glowingly of that nice Jewish girl Natalie Portman and what a smart, lovely young thing she is. Did you know she was born in Israel? Did you know she went to Harvard? I beg her to reconsider, and eventually we end up going to see The King’s Speech, which is boring if inoffensive. Later, my grandmother will make my parents take her to Black Swan and she will leave me a scathing voicemail, furious about how anyone could make such an offensive picture. She describes it as a “porno.” She will not accept my I-told-you-so.”
I’m going to a women’s social media, blogging, and professional networking conference that’s camp style. :P
They had tons of questions that I sweated over answering (lying).
When I got home from A-Camp, I explained what it really was and that was how I came out. :)

What an “unfounded rape case” should look like isn’t a lie, but a lost opportunity for justice.
Autostraddle’s Favorite LGBT TV Characters Of 2014In 2012, we added 11 new queer female TV characters to the pop culture canon. In 2013, we added 44; an enormous leap! And this year, 53 new lady-lovin’-ladies made their way to our televisions, bringing the yearly total to 128. ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHT. Our crack team of writers has weighed in on their favorite characters of this monumental year.
Drawn to Comics: My Top 12+ Favorite Single Issues of 2014With the end of the year I wanted to look back at some of my favorite single issues of some of my favorite series. When I started this list, I was trying to make it just my ten favorite single issues of comics from this year, but there were just too many great ones. I’ve been trying to be less bitter during the holiday season and so I wanted to end the year on a positive note, talking about things I love. All of these series, and especially all of these issues are super wonderful and I’d recommend you check them out.
Gothip Girl’s Top 10 Most Important Celesbian Moments of 2014Oh, what a year it’s been! In 2014, Autostraddle’s own Gothip Girl (and other dedicated writers) served up important investigative journalism regarding the greatest issues facing queer women today: what famous queer women are up to, who they’re kissing, what they’re eating for lunch. To honor this successful year of hard-hitting reports, we’ve assembled a few of the most life-altering things that have happened in Vapid Fluff within the past twelve months.

We asked y’all to use the hashtag #HappyHoligays on social media this season, and boy, did you ever!
Hi I made Autostraddle’s HappyHoligays Hall of Fame not once, but twice, because of my A-Wreath-a Franklin and because I made a joke about double fisting on twitter and this I has been my biggest accomplishment of 2014. Closing the year strong what’s up.
One thing that many parents unfortunately do not want their children to be, is gay. By “gay,” I really mean not-straight; whether parents conceptualize sexual orientation as binary or for the diverse cornucopia it is, what they have in common is that they want their kids to be straight. A lot of parents still see being not-straight as something that can or should be changed. (And if it can’t, they should at least be able to prevent their kids from “acting on” their homobigayqueerness, ugh.) Things are complicated by the fact that in our society, we typically conflate biological sex with gender identity, and gender identity with gender roles, presentation, performance, sexual orientation, AND sexual behavior.
21 Amazing Women Who Came Out, Showed Up Or Got Girlfriends In 2014 on AutostraddleIt’s that time of year again, when we look back and think about all the lesbian, bisexual, queer, transgender and otherwise-identified ladies who we didn’t even know were of the LGBT persuasion last year! It was actually a little harder to find a long list this year than it was in 2013 and 2012 — perhaps because everybody already came out last year!
The biggest shift this year was how many women have come out by not coming out at all. They never made a big pronouncement, they just suddenly had a girlfriend and the world was pretty cool with it. It’s a brand new day, y’all.
