See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna
I just want to do all of the things that I want to do. I never want to let any sort of fear hold me back from, say, an interview that I think is cool for a website that I think is cool. I’m not ready to be like, “hello, this is how you can label me,” but I’m definitely not gonna deny things about my life, either.

Artist You Should Know: Sophie Argetsinger

Sophie is a very good friend and longtime supporter of our work at Everyone Is Gay, and we were honored beyond belief to have her as the artist for our first ‘zine collaboration with Autostraddle.

You can see more of Sophie’s work, including CUSTOM DRAWINGS OF YOU AS AN ANIMAL (!!) and adorable cards and so, so much more, right here in her store!

You can also get your hands on the above illustrations (plus more) in OMG I’m Gay, the first in our quarterly ‘zine series collab with Autostraddle, here!

We love Sophie! <3

It’s somehow more comfortable for society to label fat people disgusting than to acknowledge our desirability. The propaganda is so pervasive that fat people must fight not to believe it of ourselves. We look at our bodies in bits and pieces because we are taught that the whole is too much. We feel a lover’s hands on our fat thighs and we have to trust that the hand wouldn’t be there if its owner didn’t want us.

We eat the messages that call us repulsive and we let stomach acid destroy the words and we march forward. We flirt with another fat girl at the coffee shop. We welcome a skinny boy to lose himself between our legs. We learn to stand naked in front of full length mirrors and see our many inches as a whole.

We learn to fall in love with ourselves.

It’s like Glee is mocking shippers and also every person who had enough fortitude and liquor to make it this far. The world did desperately need the romance of these two characters. It changed everything. It needed Santana and it needed Brittany, too. People have been so vocal about these couples because they actually needed them. Why is Glee mocking the people whose whole lives have been made so much better because they finally got to see themselves reflected on TV? I just can’t wrap my head around why you would create a thing people love and then chastise them for loving it.

I’d been struggling to remember my Autostraddle root because I knew a few of the OG staff long before this website was born. Thankfully, Riese reminded me that my gratitude is wholly owed to Ilene Chaiken, the creator of The L Word but also OurChart.com, a lesbian social networking website on which our Editor In Chief, Riese, was a columnist. OurChart.com was kinda amusing but admittedly effective, as Riese and I began to network socially and then a few years later, a bunch of us started this thing. R.I.P. OurChart.

It may be self-evident that recently out CEO of Apple Tim Cook and other white professional men like him do not have much in common with the black gay men of Chicago. Yet the mindset and terminology of “community” builds a singular minority to the detriment of those less privileged among the LGBT identities. When marriage equality is the law of the land and many more affluent and educated gay individuals are fulfilled, the ‘community’ will appear strong as individuals continue to suffer. We will be left to ask, 'Who still cares?’
