For all her failures (which we saw, no matter how much we tried not to — as a gay website, this shit flies across our radar each day, and the relentless negativity is ASTOUNDING), Lindsay Lohan was a girl who did what she wanted to. She was bad. She fucked up, she relapsed and rehabbed and she spilled her feelings to a room. She resisted her father’s attempts to control her. She dated girls, for f*ck’s sake. When yelled at, she yelled back. When hurt, she cried. A while after she’d been dating Samantha, the election happens and she wrote an indignant MySpace blog all about gay marriage and you could tell she’d never thought about it before, and that newness and earnest desire to impact the world suddenly was sort of cute and inspiring, as much as it was tepid. When her career was in the shitcan, she went to fucking India and said she was making a documentary there, when it was perfectly obvious people would find a way to hurt and insult her there, too. We never have any idea what’s really going on with her because most of the stories we here are imaginary, so it’s like a fill-in-the-blanks game of celebrity bingo. But she is a woman who everyone is yelling at all the time. Nobody should yell at a person all the time! Especially when she’s not evil at all!

When we complain about men raping, abusing, harassing, and refusing us our human rights, and you come back angrily with “But some men aren’t like that! How dare you imply that I might be like that.” Do you not think that the problem might come from the very fact that you are angry at us for complaining, rather than angry at your fellow boys and men for this enduring misogyny? Instead of being furious that we point out that many men do act this way - including men these women trust completely - be angry that there are men that will treat your mother, sister, daughter, friend, girlfriend badly purely because they are female. Not only that but they are giving you a bad name, not us.
