i’m studying abroad in panama for the semester and really want to travel to costa rica before going home. i would be going my myself and its a 17 hr bus ride. my parents are totes against me doing this cause by myself and convinced something bad will happ
en and have to way to get in touch w/ me. plus i need to get home to take the GRE & grad school prep. but i really want to go but am kinda scared. plus i feel kinda selfish asking for another week when i’ve been here 4 mos already. so, to go to CR or not?

this is tough because in general i am pro-“living the dream” whenever it’s an option. but i have also lived in/traveled in a developing country and i wasn’t even alone, i was with another woman, and sometimes it was really fucking scary and legitimately dangerous! and in that context i would have told anyone i knew to definitely not travel alone. so don’t worry about being selfish, but ask people in the country that you trust whether it’s a bad idea/safe, and follow their advice. costa rica isn’t going anywhere. this isn’t your last chance to go there, it will wait for you.
Sometimes I formspring y'all with really inane/random comments when I’m feeling blue. And then if it gets responded to a few days later it makes me feel all warm and connected and less depressed. You guys really are providing free therapy! <3
