See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

I just started reading queerty and I’ve noticed that the comments/commenters can be pretty abrasive and often are attacking the author of the article/other commenters. Fortunately, this is rarely the case on autostraddle. Why do you think that is?

yeah queerty commenters are SUPER bitchy, right? before the new re-incarnation (which i like a lot better than old queerty) (actually it’s def one of my favorite websites again) people were REALLY awful, i don’t know if they still are that way.

at least with old queerty, i think the comments were vicious/bitchy because the posts were vicious/bitchy. attitude is contagious and everyone exudes precisely what they perceive they can get away with. also maybe men are a bit more comfortable with combative speech and aggressive conversations than many women are.

their tone is very different now but the commenters are probably the same commenters they had on the old site.

also, their writers don’t really ever comment (agan, that might be different now), and we do, maybe that scares people. i know i get scared when i’m writing something slightly negative about someone who could read it.

i think the message of autostraddle is “you do you” and “we love the future!” and the message of a lot of other gay sites is “look what they’re doing to us now!” i mean we do a lot of that too but also i think our tone is in general upbeat? and we have personal stuff too, not just news.

or maybe people are just scared i’m going to have a mental breakdown or something
