Every year of my life, family members put funds into trusts for my benefit, ensuring that their wealth will pass to me tax-free.

I was raised in the 1% and am still in it. My salary as an educator is 10 times smaller than the income I make from these inherited investments… but the tax rate on those investments is far lower than the tax rate on my salary.

I love my family. I don’t love the system that allows us to keep using our surplus wealth to accumulate more surplus wealth when so many people are struggling to meet basic needs.

I want to live in a world where everyone has access to quality health care, housing, education, and food. There is more than enough to go around: the problem is that what we all should be sharing is sequestered in the hands of a small minority.

I AM THE 1%. I STAND WITH THE 99%. RAISE MY TAXES.

The tv character I identify most with right now is a 14 year old boy on Parenthood, which is to say- how do you go about kissing someone? I just don’t understand how you go from sitting to kissing? I just… she wore a leather jacket today.

here is how i go about kissing someone whom i’ve not yet kissed:

1. sit near person
2. when talking, turn upper body toward person; make eye contact
3. get up to get [something], when you return, sit closer to person than before.
4. apply lip balm
5. eat life savers wint-o-mint candy; offer her one
6. situate body so that arms / thighs / knees are touching
7. wait
8. reapet steps 4 & 5
9. wait
10. straddle person; kiss

i feel like i might be falling really hard for a girl, but i’m kind of terrified to say anything. is there a non-creepy way to bring this up? or should i not bring it up and… wait it out/STOP IT ALREADY? (i should maybe mention we’re coworkers)

in this case i’d go the indirect route. i would suggest flirting, lots of “i brought an extra [treat you are enjoying , that she’s not allergic to] for you” and maybe also some out-of-work activities. like paintball.

once you said that rooftops made you feel alive because you’ve never jumped off of them, and that is how i feel every day. when i wait for the subway i’m afraid i’ll step in front of it, or when i cross a bridge i know i could jump off but something always makes my muscles stop. you have so much power in that moment. and always, i guess. i am in new york city right now and i was at the top of the new museum looking out and i wanted to take all of new york in my arms and know all of the good and the bad and the beautiful that is inside of it. thank you, yes you, for writing and living until at least age 30 and being happy, and for helping me know why i never jump off.
