Side of the nose stud yes, basically always. I recently interviewed for a medical school and the anesthesiologist interviewing me had her nose pierced. Side of the nose ring depends on the formality of the workplace. I would say no in situations where people wear suits/ties. A septum ring is never appropriate in a formal environment but is fine in a casual work environment (any place where it is also okay to have large amounts of skin/tattoos showing).
